Languages, for Cryin' on Pete!

I really am happy at my college, it's true. However, after just having met with my adorable Parisian advisor, I have a few complaints that I wish the administrators would hear.

LANGUAGES ARE IMPORTANT. LANGUAGES ARE NOT SECOND-TIER TO MATH, BIOLOGY, OR CHEMISTRY. ENCORPORATE A LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT, PLEASE.

And while you're at it, why not have a German department. Just sayin'.

Thanks.

  1. Yes! I agree completely! Learning another language has, at times, made my life hectic, complicated, and frustrating. But it has also given a deeper understanding of other cultures, a really wonderful talent, and a way to swear at my brother without him understanding! LOL

I know that people are always going on and on about how math, biology, and the hard sciences are important. And they are. But has anyone ever stopped to think that there would be no math, no science, perhaps (dare I be radical?) no numbers if there was no language to make them a reality?

  2. I completely agree with both of you! And even though language is something that is extremely difficult for me, I think that it is something that is important to know, and to acknowledge, and embrace. Because without language, how would anyone communicate?
